Germany. Bundesliga - the German season on the odds board
The Germany. Bundesliga crowns Germany's football champion. Its cast is compact — 18 clubs, 34 rounds, everyone against everyone home and away, three points per win and one per draw — and that composition has held steady since 1992-93. The Deutsche Fußball Liga, the DFL, took charge of operations in 2001, inheriting the role from the DFB, the country's football association.
A league that answers to its members
German club football runs on the 50+1 principle: a club's own members must retain the controlling vote, so an outside investor cannot assume majority command. Historic corporate ownership grants exemptions to three clubs: Bayer Leverkusen, Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg. The competition's very name reflects that independence — it carries no sponsor, something the 2. Bundesliga below cannot claim.
🏆 The scale of Bayern's dominance

Bayern Munich retained the championship in 2025-26, closing the argument on 19 April 2026 by beating Stuttgart 4:2 — title number 34 of the Bundesliga era and number 35 of German football altogether. More than every second season in the league's existence has ended with Bayern on top of the pile.
⚽ Turnover of the 2026-27 field
Three names changed on the roster over the summer:
Promoted club | Story |
|---|---|
Schalke 04 | Return to the elite after three seasons away |
SV Elversberg | First top-flight campaign ever — the 59th club in league history |
SC Paderborn | Came through the play-off against Wolfsburg |
St. Pauli, Heidenheim and Wolfsburg made way — for Wolfsburg a first relegation since arriving in the elite in 1997. Schalke's comeback restores the Revierderby against Borussia Dortmund, the oldest and fiercest feud of the Ruhr, while Der Klassiker between Bayern and Dortmund keeps its billing as the flagship of the German game.
Calendar, Europe and the survival play-off
The season spans 28 August 2026 to 22 May 2027; Bayern raised the curtain at home to Stuttgart on the opening Friday, 28 August, at 20:30. After matchday 14, played on 18-20 December, the league rests until 8 January 2027. The final reckoning sends places 1-4 to the Champions League league phase, fifth to the Europa League and sixth to the Conference League play-off round, with the DFB-Pokal winner adding a Europa League entry that passes down the table if the cup holder already sits in the top five. Places 17 and 18 exit directly to the 2. Bundesliga; the club finishing 16th plays a home-and-away survival tie against the third-best team of the second tier on 27 and 31 May 2027. Fridays and Saturdays carry most of the German programme — both inside Sudan's Friday-Saturday weekend. Round-by-round prices are listed in the Football section.
